“Which Is It?” by Blaine O’Brien
There is a special moment in the life of a composition when it moves from notes on a page to music in the room. The rhythms are no longer simply imagined or written. They begin to breathe, develop a shared feel, and take shape through the musicians playing them together.
In May 2026, we began rehearsing and recording “Which Is It?,” an original composition by Blaine O’Brien.
The piece explores the space between straight sixteenth notes and triplets. The rhythm seems to lean in both directions without settling completely into either—hence the title, “Which Is It?”
Our goal was to capture the moment when an idea becomes a shared musical experience among everyone in the room. I hope that feeling of excitement comes through in the audio and video.
We had a great time bringing the piece to life in the studio. I am very grateful to Blaine for trusting me with the audio production, to Arthur for his creative contributions to the video production, and to all the musicians who shared their time and talent with this project.
